Today, I’m diving into a straightforward solution to this very problem. Let’s transform your blog posts from missing-in-action to front-and-center, capturing the attention of every visitor to your site.
First things first, ensure you’re on the edit page of your blog post. If you’ve spent a good chunk of time creating content, you’re likely familiar with this view. But the magic we’re about to perform happens in a slightly less explored corner of your screen.
Look towards the bottom left-hand corner of your screen. See that gear icon? That’s your gateway to adjusting your post’s settings. A simple click reveals options that are often overlooked but incredibly powerful.
Within the settings panel, you’ll find a box labeled ‘Excerpt’. This is where you can add a brief overview or teaser of your post. Keep it concise; about 25 words should do the trick. This snippet is what will entice readers to click through and read more.
Just below the excerpt box, you’ll notice an option to add a featured image. Clicking the plus sign here allows you to either upload a new image or select one that’s already in your media library. Choose an image that represents your post well, as this will be the first thing viewers see on your news page.
Once you’ve input your excerpt and chosen your featured image, it’s time to hit ‘Update’ and bring your changes to life. While these won’t alter the appearance of your post when viewed directly, they play a crucial role on your main blog or news page.
Head back to your main page, and voilà! Your post now proudly displays its featured image and a neat excerpt right below the title. Just like that, your post stands out, inviting readers into the world you’ve crafted.
